day 8 – Aranjuez

Day 7 was a day “in” while Maria and Nico packed up to leave for Argentina. Had to say adios to my little man….and all the lovely snuggles coos & smiles I was receiving.

Day 8 – Aranjuez, the spring palace of the Kings & Queens of Spain (now just an historical/tourist location). Gorgeous palace (because aren’t they all???), but no photography allowed inside. I had to simply LOOK at things – and it was so refreshing.

Day 5 – un dia tranquilo

Today was a nice quiet day for a Monday (I had to think about it BEING a monday)….we hung around the flat, I took Nico’s portraits, and then went for a brisk walk around an area of Madrid I explored a few years ago.

El Corte Ingles – the store with everything, that is everywhere – fun shopping. Carrying the bags of groceries all the way home, on the metro, by myself – not so fun. Especially when I returned to the flat, which is quite lovely, except there is no lift.

So bajo….primero…segundo….tercero…cuarto….quinto (aka muerto).

Making thai for dinner for the ladies – but not until Irene is out of work – 11:45 pm. I love the longer days, the later starts, and the general attitude towards life here.

So all in all, not too many photos, but still a good day.

day 4 – con familia

Today was a day out into the Sierras to Cercedilla (where I spent most of my last trip here) with the family – got to see Rapha again, meet his lovely wife Cristina, and their six month old son, Santiago. Now I have to edit previous posts about the cutest baby in Spain to say “cutest 4 month old” b/c Santiago is the cutest 6 month old.

So….mini photoshoot of the baby, a four generation photo, and a lovely traditional Spanish meal. Oh, and mom (ironically, Irene, which is my mother’s name also) remembered what I liked, and got a bottle of Rioja. A magnum. No litre bottles here….

Needless to say I feel appreciated 🙂

Day three – fabulous day just on the streets of Madrid…

started out having tapas and wine at 2:30 (b/c who needs breakfast)….
visited a cathedral
saw the national palace
wandered the streets, dodged the traffic (foot, that is)
observed the faces
cafe con leche
…sigh….i love it here

Day 2, jetlag recovery

Day 2: a little shopping, a lot of cuddling (the darling Nico, 4 mos old), and recovering from jet lag
Oh, and i went to an Irish pub. In Madrid. Had cafe con leche, not guinness. No “when in Rome” for this girl, at least not when I’m still in my beloved Spain!

Spain…day 1….a little tired….

Day one started off by a 45 minute circling of the airport because of heavy fog, followed by the longest taxi to a gate EVER (well, in my life), and a long walk to a long wait at baggage claim. But it was all worth it to see my dear Irene and to have time to wander around Madrid today (though the photo taking was a little on the “weak/i’m going to pass out from exhaustion” side…..so it is off to bed soon for me, as I haven’t slept in 36 hours, and I want to be ready to roll tomorrow!

Hasta!

[ Kim/Matt ] – engaged

I “met” Kim thanks to the “social network,” where she had seen Kenny & Becky’s wedding pictures posted, and contacted me to see if I was available for her March 2011 wedding in New York. Um, yeah! When I first met with them in Lansing, I quickly got to see they were a laid back, cool couple who enjoyed time with each other more than anything.

As professors of psychology, it was fun to stack their books in their little orchard and play on that, but I think most fun of all was gutting a console television and catching these gamers & movie buffs through the “screen.”

Kim & Matt – I’m looking forward to New York in March! See you there!

[ Kaila/Dave ] – engaged

I met the lovely Kaila and Dave this past summer to talk about their wedding, and to say Kaila & I bonded over our love of black & hot pink would be a bit of an understatement. Then you add the love of shoes. Oh, and Dave too. I think he’s quite a guy, and together, well, they are spectacular.

Our engagement session was a blast, and it was easy to see that these two will be so much fun to work with on their wedding day (July 16, 2011). We ran around some spots near my studio, and then meandering through the woods (and on a slippery sidewalk which left me in the mud, on my back) came to the baseball field where Dave used to play. Pictures on the pitcher’s mound were a must.

Kaila & Dave – I’m so excited for your wedding! Hope you are having a fantastic holiday!

[ elizabeth.senior ]

I had a great run of awesome senior sessions this season (say that seven times fast), and Elizabeth happened to be one of the shyest, and sweetest souls I encountered. There is just something purely sweet about her, that you sense it right away, and feel like this is someone who may not always standout in a crowd, but will always be noticed for being there because her presence simply speaks.

Plus she was fun to photograph.

Here’s a quick preview of the sweet elizabeth’s senior photos (click on image for full version):
